Agriculture CS Hon Peter Munya has opened the first Fertilizer Club event at a Nairobi Hotel, which seeks to facilitate balanced fertilizer access to smallholders farmers, ensuring sustainable growth.
Addressing various stakeholders, CS Munya has noted that the event is significant, because of the current fertilizer price hike in the country, that threatens access of fertilizers in the domestic markets.
He added that the Ministry is promoting domestic fertilizer manufacturing and blending, supported by international fertilizer companies.
He said that the government is supporting smallholder farmers through E-voucher system which empowers eligible farmers to buy fertilizer from various traders.
CS Munya urged the stakeholders to collaborate with the government on improving farmers’ knowledge, on fertilizer market Intelligence, on monitoring local and international fertilizer prices and in development and monitoring retail agro-dealers and agro-dealers hubs.
