CS Sen. Mutahi Kagwe, alongside PS Jonathan Mueke, concluded the Inter-Governmental Forum on Agriculture (IGFA) 2025, bringing together PSs, Governors, County Executives, Development Partners, and Private Sector Leaders from across the country.
Held under the theme “Strengthening Global Positioning of Kenya’s Agricultural Sector through Investment, Technology, Digitalization, and Innovation,” the Forum reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to modernizing agriculture through technology, data, and innovation.
AI and drone technology emerged as key drivers of smart farming, enhancing precision spraying, crop monitoring, and real-time decision making. A major milestone was the unveiling of the Kenya Agricultural Digital Information Center (KADIC), a national digital hub providing farmer profiling, market intelligence, advisory services, and interoperable platforms accessible across the sector.
The Ministry also received the Kenya Integrated Agriculture Management Information System (KIAMIS) from FAO, with KADIC now starting off with over 7 million registered farmers.
The Forum emphasized the importance of innovation, improved coordination between national and county governments, expanded market access, affordable agricultural financing, and unlocking investments through streamlined land access.
It also highlighted the need for stronger livestock infrastructure, efficient disease control, traceability systems, and enhanced drought preparedness through early warning systems and livestock offtake programmes. Climate-resilient technologies, empowered regulatory bodies, and increased youth participation through incubation and digital tools also featured prominently.
Kenya continues to position itself as a regional leader in agricultural digitalization and innovation. With AI, drones, smart irrigation, KIAMIS, and KADIC at the center, the future of Kenyan agriculture is firmly on a transformative path.
The Nyumba Foundation, concessionaires in the Galana-Kulalu food security project, showcased how year-round irrigated agriculture, powered by modern irrigation and water management systems, is already boosting national food production and strengthening food security.
