Today, CS for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Sen. Mutahi Kagwe, together with PS for Livestock Development Jonathan Mueke, presided over the 69th Graduation Ceremony of the Dairy Training Institute (DTI), Naivasha. Also present were Nakuru Deputy Governor H.E. David Kones, Dr. Bashir Elmi, and other senior officials.
The CS congratulated the Class of 2025, lauding their resilience and practical skills that make DTI graduates highly marketable across the dairy value chain. He noted that the dairy industry remains a key pillar of Kenya’s economy, offering vast opportunities for youth to innovate, create jobs, and drive rural transformation.
Your training at DTI has prepared you not just for employment, but to become employers—building enterprises that will transform our rural economies, said CS Kagwe.
CS Kagwe also distributed nine milk coolers to farmer producer organizations and institutions in Nakuru County. The nine are part of 230 coolers procured by the State Department of Livestock through the Livestock Value Chain Support Project (LVCSP) at a cost of Ksh 1.2 billion. LVCSP, a BETA priority project, aims to raise household incomes by 30% among targeted dairy and pastoralist communities by 2028. The project is enhancing milk productivity, reducing post-harvest losses, promoting value addition, and expanding market access for smallholders. Once fully deployed, the 230 coolers will increase national milk chilling capacity by 475,000 litres per day, translating to an additional 173 million litres annually.
The Ministry continues to support DTI with modern infrastructure and programs aligned to the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), ensuring agriculture remains youth-driven and vibrant.
The CS also commended DTI’s revenue generation efforts and encouraged the use of its 1,000 acres through PPPs to develop modern facilities and livestock feed production ventures.
