Agriculture CS Sen. Mutahi Kagwe and the PS for Livestock, Jonathan Mueke, today hosted a delegation from the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by the Chamber President, Dr Erick Rutto, to deepen collaboration in boosting Kenya’s dairy and beef exports.
CS Kagwe said Kenya is shifting from volume to quality in dairy, targeting value-added exports like butter, cheese and milk powder. He noted that KNCCI is a key partner in linking Kenyan producers to global markets and investors.
The CS also called for affordable agricultural financing under 10% interest to make livestock and dairy enterprises viable and announced the revival of the Agriculture Sector Working Group to align policy and private sector efforts.
The meeting highlighted Kenya’s major beef export deal with China under Origin Prime Kenyan, a 25-year, KSh 26B contract set to create 135,000 jobs and modernise the Kenya Meat Commission with a KSh 2B upgrade.
PS Mueke noted Kenya produces 5.4B litres of milk annually and must now focus on exports as domestic consumption nears capacity.
Both sides agreed to a practical partnership to drive investment, raise standards, and position Kenya as a regional powerhouse in dairy and beef exports.
