Cabinet Secretary - Ministry of Agriculture

Hon. Peter Gatirau Munya (born 1969) is the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperative (Kenya). He took over the ministry on 14th January 2020. This is after he was transferred from the Ministry of Trade and Industrialization. He also served in the same capacity in the ministry of East African Community and Northern Corridor Development. He is a politician who served as the first Governor of Meru County, and as the second Chairman of the Council of Governors. He was until his appointment as a Cabinet Secretary the Party of National Unity (PNU) Leader. In 2002 Peter Munya campaigned for and won the Tigania East parliamentary seat in the then Meru North District. He was subsequently sworn into the 9th Kenyan Parliament on 9 January 2003.

In the 9th Parliament, Hon. Peter Munya founded and chaired Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association with the aim of championing in Parliament, issues affecting Kenya youth. He was also member of the Health Club Management committee and the Parliamentary Investment Committee (PIC) before his appointment to the government in 2006 as the Assistant Minister, Ministry of Internal Security and Provincial Administration where he called for stronger laws to curb small arms proliferation.  Read More >>

Anne Nyaga is The Chief Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Fisheries and Cooperatives in the Government of Kenya. She was previously the County Minister for Agriculture in the County Government of EmbuChief Executive Officer of the 4-H Kenya Foundation and founder and Chief Executiver Officer of Farm2Home Ltd. She is a talented fundraiser, innovator and mentor.

Ms. Nyaga holds a Bachelor of Science, Biomedical Science and Technology degree from Egerton University in Kenya and has various certifications in leadership and agriculture management. A proven organizational leader, she has a keen interest in Youth and Gender mainstreaming and the role of agriculture in youth empowerment.

Passionate about a food secure Africa, Ms. Nyaga has worked in her official and personal capacities with various the Government of Kenya, private sector, international, bilateral and multilateral donor organizations and non-state organizations on several agriculture policy initiatives. She has been a member of various committees and taskforces: National Youth in Agribusiness Strategy Development and Implementation Committee; National Thematic Working Group on Youth in Agriculture; National Coordination Team on Global Open Data on Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN); the Miraa Taskforce Implementation Committee; National Task Force for Development of Agricultural Sector Youth Policy.  Read More >>

Hon.Linah Jebii Kilimo was appointed by Kenya’s President as the Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture in January 2020.

She served as the founder chairperson of the newly formed Anti-Female Genital Mutilation Board from December 2013- March 2017. In March 2014, she represented Kenya at the 58th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, United Nations Headquarters, New York, USA – speaking on “Accelerating efforts towards the abandonment of FGM – Keeping Girls in School”. She was a Member of the Panel in the Commission of Inquiry into Childhood Pregnancies in Kenya, in relation to the practice of harmful cultural practices like FGM and Forced Early Childhood Marriages. She was also a Strategic Advisory Group member of the Girl Generation, British Funded project aimed at ending FGM within a generation from 2017-2019.

PS – Prof. Hamadi Iddi Boga

Principal Secretary State Department for Agricultural Research.

Prof. Hamadi Iddi Boga is the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Agricultural Research in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. He is the former founding Principal of Taita Taveta University and was its Vice Chancellor between 2007 and 2017. He was a Professor in the Department of Botany at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. His skills and interests are in biology, agricultural science, sequencing, microbiology, molecular biological techniques and RNA genes. He also has an interest in microbial ecology of insects’ guts, soils and soda lakes and has worked with termites, the soda lakes of Kenya, mangrove swamps, agricultural and forest soils and also on Mount Kenya glacier. He has a PhD in Biology from Universität Konstanz in Germany.
