Today, Principal Secretary for Agriculture, Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh Paul, CBS, visited Chebut and Kaptumo Tea Factories in Nandi County, where he officially presented the certificate of separation—ushering in a new era of autonomy and growth for the factories.
In his address, Dr. Ronoh emphasized the need for modernization through the deployment of efficient machinery, strengthened subsidy programs for last-mile fertilizer distribution, and enhanced value addition informed by international market research.
To further empower farmers, he donated 20,000 certified tea and avocado seedlings, encouraging diversification and sustainability. The government has also committed KSh 168 million to support the factories—an investment aimed at boosting productivity and improving livelihoods. In addition, farmers will benefit from a guaranteed payment of KSh 26 per kilogram of green leaf, ensuring fair compensation and reinforcing economic stability within the sector.
Dr. Ronoh was flanked by Area MP Hon. Josses Lelmengit, CECM for Agriculture Mr. Kiplimo Lagat, and TBK CEO Mr. Willy Mutai, all reaffirming their shared commitment to the prosperity and resilience of the tea industry in Nandi County.
