Background

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development was established vide Executive Order No. 1 of 2023 dated 6th January 2023. The overall mandate of the Ministry is to create an enabling environment for sustainable development and management of crops and livestock to ensure the country’s food and nutrition security. The Ministry plays a key role in economic and social development of the country through enhancing food and nutrition security; employment and wealth creation; and foreign exchange earnings.

Mandate

The mandate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development is to create an enabling environment for sustainable development of agriculture for food and nutrition security and economic development.

Ministry’s Organization Structure

The Ministry has two State Departments namely: State Department for Agriculture and Livestock Development. It also oversees the running of Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) and a number of Training Institutions.
