Agriculture CS Hon Peter Munya has launched the Tea Industry Price Stabilization Framework at a Nairobi Hotel.
In his address, CS Munya has noted that price stabilization is one of the critical reforms agenda for the tea industry envisaged under the Tea Act, 2020.
The Ministry of Agriculture has been spearheading reforms to address various challenges in the tea sub-sector.
In order to cushion tea farmers, from price fluctuations which were making tea farming unsustainable, CS Munya appointed the National Technical Working Committee on the Design, Development and Implementation of the Tea Industry Price Stabilization Framework on 30th April 2021.
The objectives of the task force were to develop a robust price stabilization framework for the tea industry in Kenya; evaluate the resource requirements and possible sources to support the tea industry price stabilization framework; and evaluate plausible sustainability options for the tea industry price stabilization framework.
