CS Agriculture and Livestock Development, Hon Mithika Linturi at Africa Fertilizer and Soil Summit
Today, CS Mithika Linturi participated in the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Summit at the KICC.
During his address, he emphasized the critical issue of soil fertility depletion, attributing it to continuous mining of soil nutrients and inappropriate farming practices, including suboptimal fertilizer usage.
He highlighted the adverse effects of land degradation, such as decreased crop production, food insecurity, reduced agricultural returns, and environmental harm.
The summit aims to unite relevant stakeholders to underscore the importance of fertilizer and soil health in African agriculture and to formulate an African Fertilizer and Soil Health Action Plan, along with the Soils Initiative for Africa.
The Summit was graced by the Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi.
