Agriculture and Livestock CS Hon Mithika Linturi
Agriculture and Livestock CS Hon Mithika Linturi today presided over a Governors’ consultative workshop on the Agri-Preneurs Extension Model at Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel, Nairobi.
The forum organised by Emergency Locust Response Project (ERLP), National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) and Food Systems Resilience Project (FSRP), provided an opportunity to deliberate on the challenges experienced in the delivery of advisory services to farmers and to appreciate the emerging extension solutions and models.
The Agri-preneurs extension model will be rolled out in all 46 counties, aiming to onboard approximately 6,680 agri-preneurs in 1,355 wards with an aim of reaching over 6 million registered farmers with various extension services through successful implementation of this model.
He encouraged Counties to prioritize investment in promising/yield increasing technologies; expansion of irrigation investments to increase productivity and production; aggregation of produce, and value addition for enhanced market value. Investments in feed conservation and feed-lotting, especially in ASAL areas, will reduce livestock losses and increase the market value of livestock.
The event was also attended by the Council of Governor’s led by the Vice Chair COG, Ahmed Abdullahi, Committee on Agriculture Vice Chair, H.E. Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga, EGH,
Governors; Hon Cecily mbarire, Governor Amos Nyaribo, Governor Gladys Wanga, Stephen Sang, Governor Benjamin Cheboi, EBS, EGH, Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke , World Bank and FAO Representatives among other government officials.
