The National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), a key agency continues to play a pivotal role in distributing subsidized fertilizer to farmers. Regarding past concerns regarding fertilizer quality, the CS assured Kenyans that the government has taken rigorous measures to address these issues. Every batch of fertilizer is now subjected to thorough inspection to ensure only high-quality products reach farmers, he added.

The Kenya Kwanza Government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring food security and access to nutritious, quality food. Through this subsidy program, we have witnessed significant improvements in food production, reduced costs of basic commodities, and enhanced livelihoods for farmers.

For the 2025 long rains season, the government has procured 7.4 million bags of fertilizer, the bulk of which will be delivered to stores by mid-January 2025. Distribution is set to commence at the end of January, ensuring our farmers are well-prepared by the onset of the rains in mid-March.

To enhance accessibility, the government is increasing the number of outlets through partnerships with cooperatives and agro-vet stores, in addition to the existing NCPB depots.

Registered farmers will receive e-vouchers, which they can redeem at these outlets. County governments remain actively involved to streamline the process and reach as many farmers as possible.

The price of government subsidized fertilizer will remain at an affordable Ksh 2,500 per 50-kg bag this season, ensuring that more farmers benefit from this program.
