#MkulimaKwanza:
Agriculture CS Sen Mutahi Kagwe, EGH has issued a stern warning to miraa traders and exporters: comply with the Ministry’s set minimum prices or face immediate delicensing. Non-compliant players will be required to reapply—this time declaring the prices they intend to offer farmers.

“Air transport costs are no longer a valid excuse for underpaying our farmers. If you can’t meet the standards, consider other trade avenues,” the CS asserted.

On macadamia, Kagwe firmly reiterated that the ban on raw nut exports remains in place to safeguard local value addition. He further directed the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) to issue clear guidelines on approved macadamia seedlings to ensure quality production across the value chain.

The CS made these announcements during Meru Farmers’ Day, where he was joined by Agriculture Committee Chair John Mutunga (MP, Tigania West), Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi, AFA DG Bruno Linyiru, and other sector stakeholders. Together, they flagged off two macadamia dehuskers and launched a seedling distribution drive for Tigania East and Tigania West Constituencies.

Earlier the CS joined members of Mount Kenya Nuts Cooperative Society and together they toured a macadamia nut farm, where they engaged in various issues affecting the value chain with an aim of revitalizing the oil and nut value chain.
