The government is dedicated to creating a thriving environment for the private sector to drive value addition and agri-processing, fueling economic growth and innovation.

During his working tour of Kisumu County, CS Dr. Andrew Karanja visited Kibos Industries to engage with stakeholders in the sugar sector, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting its transformation.

The sugar sector remains a key economic pillar and livelihood source for millions, especially in western Kenya. Significant progress includes the operationalization of 17 sugar factories and the construction of four more, boosting processing capacity and production. In July alone, domestic sugar output reached 84,000 MT, more than double the national monthly demand of 40,000 MT, marking a major step toward self-sufficiency.

Farmers have benefitted from subsidized fertilizers, reducing costs and enhancing profitability, alongside a 500-acre expansion in sugarcane farming to meet growing demand.

New sugar laws and improved governance have further strengthened the sector, attracting investments and ensuring sustainability.

With these milestones, Kenya is steadily positioning itself as a global sugar exporter, enhancing economic growth and national food security.
