The Principal Secretary for Agriculture, Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh Paul, CBS, together with Cabinet Secretary for Water, Eng Eric Mugaa, joined the Garissa County Agricultural Exhibition, an inspiring gathering that celebrated innovation, resilience, and the promise of agribusiness in arid and semi-arid regions. The event was graciously hosted by the area Member of Parliament, Major (Rtd) Dekow Barrow, whose commitment to agricultural transformation continues to uplift local communities.
During the exhibition, Dr. Ronoh officially flagged off the first cohort of agripreneurs—young, visionary farmers trained to champion climate-smart agriculture, value addition, and market-driven production. Their induction marks a strategic shift toward youth-led agricultural development in Garissa County.
To support this initiative, five oil press machines were donated to farmer cooperatives, enabling local processing of sunflower and other oil seeds. This investment in value addition is expected to boost rural incomes, create employment, and reduce post-harvest losses.
Furthermore, 3 metric tonnes of beans and 1 metric tonne of certified sunflower seeds will be distributed to farmers across the county. These high-quality inputs are tailored to enhance productivity, promote crop diversification, and strengthen food security in the face of climate variability.
This multifaceted intervention aligns with Kenya’s broader agricultural transformation agenda—anchored in youth empowerment, sustainable farming, and inclusive economic growth.
Governor Nathif Jama Adam, EGH,Hon.Abdul Haji (Senator),Hosts of MPs,MCas among others leaders were present.
