Today, on behalf of the Government of Kenya, Cabinet Secretary Sen. Mutahi Kagwe signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ms. Rose Goslinga, President of Pula Advisors, at Kilimo House. She was accompanied by Mr. Erastus Maingi – Country Manager for Kenya.
The MoU marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, and Pula Foundation, to strengthen climate resilience for smallholder farmers through innovative agricultural insurance solutions, starting with the subsidised fertilizer program.
Under this agreement, the Parties will jointly support the design and implementation of this innovative insurance program, capacity building, data sharing, and policy support. This partnership is part of the broader ‘10 Million Resilient Farmers’ initiative funded by the Bayer Cares Foundation, aiming to reach 10 million smallholder farmers across Africa and Asia by 2030.
By improving access to insurance and risk transfer mechanisms, the collaboration is expected to significantly enhance the resilience and productivity of Kenya’s smallholder farmers, particularly youth and women. In 2025, Pula will commence operations in 11 counties across the country. Each farmer in these counties will be insured for two bags of fertilizer that they procure from GoK. The intervention is expected to support farmers in the face of extreme weather events, pests, and diseases.
