Principal secretary, Dr Kipronoh Ronoh Paul Engages stakeholders on significant tea reforms

Today, the Principal secretary state department for Agriculture Dr.Kiprono Ronoh Paul held an elaborate and consultative meeting with the West of Rift Small scale tea factory Directors(Nandi, Bomet,Kericho and Kisii counties) at Kericho county.

There is an urgency to reposition our tea industry as a profitable venture that will contribute to the county’s socio-economic development as a source of livelihood thus creating both direct and indirect employment.

On his remarks PS assured the KTDA factory Directors that the Ministry is committed to work with them for the benefit of our farmers and the country at large.

Dr Rono said that the Ministry has already rolled up plans to improve the tea sector productivity by instituting several measures including providing fertilizer subsidy to farmers, establishment of orthodox tea lines and value addition common user facilities.
He reaffirmed the government’s close working relation with the sector’s stakeholders to ensure quick and timely implementation of issues they identified that will guarantee the industry’s growth.

Present were Mr. Willy Mutai- CEO TBK, Mr. Chepkwony National Vice Chairman Kenya Tea Development Agency – Holdings Limited, George Kubai – MD Agricultural Finance Corporation among others.
