Quality seeds are essential for supporting the entirety of the agricultural value chain. Therefore, it is imperative that we invest in and strengthen seed production by fostering collaborative partnerships with all stakeholders in the sector to enhance the quality of seeds.
Today, Principal Secretary State Department for Agriculture Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh Paul received a delegation from an external reviewer team from Crop Trust led by Dr. Nora Castaneda Alvarez.
The courtesy call visit focused was to review the progress of the Seeds for Resilience Project, a collaboration between KALRO and the Crop Trust aimed at enhancing food security through improved plant genetic resources conservation.
Crop Trust is an international organization supporting the conservation of Plant Genetic Resources (PGR) globally. Their partnership with KALRO includes vital support to the conservation of PGR through the Genetic Resources Research Institute (GeRRI) Genebank. The Seeds for Resilience Project provides financial and technical assistance to ensure that GeRRI meets international standards in seed conservation and data management.
This initiative encompasses equipment upgrades, technical training, and outreach activities to strengthen connections with farmers and plant breeders.
All these efforts are geared to revitalise agricultural development in align with Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and the Kenya vision 2030.
