Today, the Principal Secretary State Department for Agriculture Dr.Kipronoh Rono Paul,CBS paid a courtesy call to Mumias sugar factory in Kakamega County to assess their preparedness ahead of tomorrow’s unveiling of the bonuses for the sugarcane farmers which will be graced by H.E President William Samoei Ruto.
The sugar industry has achieved remarkable strides, with all 17 sugar factories now fully operational and four additional factories under construction. In July alone, the sector produced 84,000 metric tonnes of sugar, exceeding the national demand of 40,000 metric tonnes. To further boost production, 50,000 acres of land have been added for sugarcane cultivation, ensuring sustainable growth and meeting future demand.
He was flanked by Mumias East MP Hon.Peter Salaysia, Senior National and County government officials among other sugar sector stakeholders.
