Today the Principal Secretary State Department for Agriculture Dr.Kipronoh Ronoh Paul,CBS attended the conclusion of the inaugural CGIAR Science Week as the Chief guest, held at the United Nations Campus in Nairobi under the theme “Transforming Food Systems in a Climate Crisis,”. This seminal event brought together luminaries from the agriculture, climate, health, and development sectors to deliberate solutions for some of the most pressing global challenges. It spotlighted revolutionary innovations like AI-powered agricultural tools and climate-smart crop and livestock technologies, which promise transformative impact for farmers globally.
The week accentuated the importance of inclusivity, particularly the empowerment of marginalized communities, women, and youth as pivotal agents of agricultural transformation. These principles resonate profoundly with Kenya’s sustainable development aspirations and CGIAR’s overarching mission to build resilient food systems. As a nation where agriculture contributes up to 33% of GDP and sustains more than 70% of rural livelihoods, Kenya was deeply honored to host this groundbreaking event at such a prestigious venue.
As we turn vision into action, the PS urged all stakeholders to prioritize scaling localized innovations tailored to regional contexts, integrating Science Week outcomes into national policy frameworks, and advocating for investments in collaborative research with demonstrable impacts. Additionally, he propose the establishment of a Science Week Alliance—a platform dedicated to monitoring commitments made during this event and publishing annual progress reports to foster accountability and sustained partnerships.
“Kenya remains unwavering in its commitment to agricultural innovation and climate resilience. I look forward to deepening collaboration with global stakeholders to usher in sustainable, equitable, and resilient food systems for future generations”, he said.
