BACKGROUND

Agriculture Statistics Unit - Head ASU

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) established the Agricultural Statistics Unit (ASU) in 2016 as a national unit responsible for coordination of agricultural data collection, database management, data analysis and data sharing. The MoALD is implementing the Agricultural Sector Transformation and Growth Strategy (ASTGS) that places Data and Digitalization as key enablers for the transformation. ASU is managed by statistics officers specialized in crops, livestock, fisheries, food security, marketing, trade and other agricultural related data.

Roles of ASU

  • Coordinate national, counties and state corporations data collection and management;
  • Compile monthly food security and agricultural status reports;
  • Support compilation of the quarterly and annual GDP reports;
  • Compile national annual agriculture production reports/Agriculture Year Book;
  • Carry out censuses, surveys and routine data collection;
  • Share updated data through the Ministry website – KilimoStat;
  • Manage the Ministry Call Centre and compile daily Call Centre reports;
  • Compile weekly and monthly commodity prices;
  • Compile commodity and inputs trade (imports and exports) data;
  • Support collection of Crop Insurance data for farmers’ compensation calculations.
