The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development today hosted a courtesy call between the Principal Secretary for Agriculture and Kenya country team, and a delegation from the World Bank Group (WBG), led by Dr. Parmesh Shah, the Global Lead for Data, Digital Agriculture and Innovations. The meeting focused on the ongoing collaboration towards the development and implementation of the Digital Agriculture Roadmap for Kenya.
Mr. Shah emphasized the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s ambition to transform its agricultural sector through data-driven approaches and innovative digital solutions. He highlighted the importance of building a robust digital ecosystem that empowers farmers, enhances productivity, and promotes sustainable and inclusive agricultural practices.
Key areas of discussion included the deployment of digital platforms to enhance farmer access to extension services, financial services, and markets; strengthening agricultural data systems to support evidence-based planning and decision-making; and fostering innovation through public-private partnerships. The meeting also underscored the need to build institutional and human capacity to effectively implement digital solutions at scale.
The Principal Secretary acknowledged the World Bank’s long-standing partnership with the Ministry and welcomed the renewed focus on digital agriculture as a strategic pathway for transforming the sector. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that the digital roadmap aligns with national priorities and delivers tangible benefits to farmers across the country.
The World Bank team expressed readiness to continue working closely with the Ministry and other stakeholders to operationalize the roadmap, noting that Kenya has the potential to lead in digital agriculture innovation across the region.
