Cabinet Secretary Hon. Sen. Mutahi Kagwe joins dignitaries in officially opening the 12th Agritec Africa International Exhibition and Conference at KICC, Nairobi.
Cabinet Secretary Hon. Sen. Mutahi Kagwe presided over the official opening of the 12th Agritec Africa International Exhibition and Conference, collocated with the 11th Dairy Livestock and Poultry Expo Africa and the 7th GrainTech Africa Expo at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi.
Underscoring the timeliness of the annual platform, held under the theme “Improving Farmers’ Incomes Through Innovation and Technology,” CS Kagwe lauded Radeecal Communications, the organiser, and the 150 private-sector entities from 25 countries for choosing Nairobi and helping grow the expo into one of the largest annual agritech convenings on the continent.
The Cabinet Secretary noted that Kenya’s quest for agricultural mechanization is government-enabled and private-sector driven, with interventions focused on addressing key barriers that have previously slowed uptake, including affordability, appropriateness, after-sales service and technical support.
CS Kagwe also launched the Sonalika range of tractors in Kenya. Elgon Kenya Limited, led by Dr. Bimal Kantaria, a 125-year-old family-owned company, is the local franchise holder. The partnership cements Elgon Kenya as one of the region’s most diversified agri-conglomerates and expands the range of mechanization products and services available to farmers.
India-domiciled Sonalika produces tractors ranging from 20 horsepower to 125 horsepower, making them suitable for both smallholder and commercial farming operations. It is also one of the world’s leading tractor exporters, with a presence in more than 150 countries.
Present were Principal Secretary for Agriculture Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh Paul, CBS, and Hamisi Williams of FAO Kenya, among other sector leaders, exhibitors and stakeholders.
