The government of Kenya is relentlessly putting efforts to make Kenya a food secure country, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 2- To end hunger.
In line with this, CAS Anne Nyaga held meetings with farmers in five stations of Gachoka, G8, Central Gandori Mwiria,Thabana Coffee factory and Murue Coffee Factory where she handed over 6000 Avocado and 3000 Macadamia seedlings to farmers.
These seedlings will be distributed in Mbeere South, Mbeere North, Manyatta and Runyenjes Sub-counties.
Those who didn’t manage to get to sites ,the can access through the Deputy County Commissioner’s Office, who will be collaborating with County Agricultural Officers.
This initiative also involves the distribution of other seeds such as :
Rice-3MT
Maize-20MT
Green grams -2MT
Beans -50MT
In January ahead of the rains, 17 other counties are set to benefit from the seed program, these include: Baringo, Kilifi, Tana River, Taita – Taveta, Machakos, Samburu, Kwale, Kakamega, Lamu among others .
She encouraged farmers to practice climate smart farming systems that take care of the environment and ensure that the farmers are using the recommended and safe pest control measures to ensure that as a country we not only have access to food, but safe food as well.
