The PS Livestock Development Hon Jonathan Mueke today officiated a meeting with Governors, Senators, Members of Parliament, Ministry officials and media, to announce the dates of launching a new project in his Livestock Department. The DRIVE project, dubbed De-risking, Inclusion, and Value Enhancement of Pastoral Economies is expected to have positive impact on enhancing the climate resilience of Pastoral communities and strengthening Commercialization of Livestock Production and ensuring the inclusion of the marginalized and vulnerable groups such as women and youth.
PS said that 21 ASAL Counties will be covered by the project namely Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Tana River, Isiolo, Samburu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Baringo, West Pokot, Narok, Laikipia, Kajiado, Makueni, Kitui, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Kilifi and Kwale. About 150,000 pastoralists are expected to benefit from the project across the ASAL Lands. He announced that the DRIVE project will be launched on 13th July 2023 in Laikipia.
