The dairy industry is vital to Kenya’s economy, contributing to incomes, employment, and food security. With an annual output of 5.2 billion liters, Kenya produces 10% of Africa’s and 35% of the East African Community’s total milk supply.

On 20th November 2024, Dr. Andrew Karanja, Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock, launched the 2024 Study Report on Milk Production Costs and Profitability at the Kenya Dairy Board headquarters. This annual report, ongoing for four years, provides insights into productivity, costs, and the sustainability of dairy farming.

Dr. Karanja reiterated the Government’s commitment to strengthening the dairy sector by enhancing milk quality and safety, expanding milk storage infrastructure, and promoting affordable animal feeds, quality fodder, and superior genetics. He also encouraged youth, farmers, and investors to explore dairy opportunities and called on stakeholders to leverage the Government’s public land leasing program for large-scale fodder production.

The report aims to guide informed decisions and promote sustainable growth in Kenya’s dairy industry.
