PS LAUNCHES LIVESTOCK MASTERPLAN DEVELOPMENT, ON 9TH FEB 2021.
The launch of State Department of Livestock Masterplan has been done. The Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai who officiated the launch in one of the Hotels in Naivasha, said that Livestock sector is faced with a number of challenges that hinder it’s growth and therefore the development of the (LMP) would address them in order to realize the sctor’s full potential.

During his remarks to the workshop participants, Kimtai said that the development of the Livestock Master Plan will support the implementation of the National Livestock Policy and guide investments into the Livestock sector. “The role of the National Livestock Master Plan (LMP) is to guide the develeopment of a sustaianable livestock Sector investments from the goverment, development patners and private sector investors,” Kimtai said.
Further, the PS said that the LMP process enables identifying the needed investments and policies to develop the Livestock sector after carrying out baseline data survey and analysis to demonstrate potential returns of combined Livestock interventions that increase the Livestock Sector’s contribution to National development objectives sustainably.
He added that LMP will also provide government Livestock experts and planners training to carry out evidence based realistic investment planning to raise Livestock Sector investments. The development process of the master plan will consider opinion from stakeholders along the entire value claims, whereby both levels of the government are fully involved .
Those who were present during the launch of LMP are Director AU-IBAR , the Kenya Markets Representative Dr Kabewa , a representative from ILRI, Dr Kangia, Director Policy Dr Christopher Wanga and members of the technical committee on the Livestock Master Plan.
