The Government has prioritized agriculture as one of the 5 pillars of the country’s economic recovery plan because the sector has the potential to lower the cost of living, create jobs, improve incomes, enhance foreign exchange and promote industrialization through agro-processing.
Today, CS Hon Mithika Linturi officiated over a consultative forum that brings together agricultural value chain actors under the guidance of Fresh Produce Consortium of Kenya (FPCK) and Bureau Veritas.
He appreciated the efforts by the agriculture stakeholders for championing the agricultural sector to achieve food security, food safety and sustainability under their forum’s theme “Shaping a world of trust in food safety”.
He noted that Kenya’s horticulture products exported for the period January to November 2021 rose from Kshs 136.7 billion in 2020 to Kshs 145.4 billion in 2021 representing a 6% increase.
