Kenya Hosts 40th Session of IRLCO-CSA Governing Council, CS Dr. Andrew Karanja Calls for Strengthened Regional Cooperation on Pest Control

Kenya hosts the 40th Regular Session of the Governing Council of Ministers of the International Red Locust Control Organization for Central and Southern Africa (IRLCO-CSA) in Nairobi, from 31st October to 1st November, 2024.

Cabinet Secretary Dr. Andrew Karanja officiated the opening session of the meeting with Agriculture Ministers from Member States including Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia,and Zimbabwe.

In his remarks the CS noted that the presence of the member states demonstrates commitment to work together to combat migratory pests. This cooperation is crucial for the achievement of food security and regional development.

Dr. Karanja emphasized strengthening regional collaboration to sustainably address new and emerging pest and disease threats. Key focus areas include enhancing regional monitoring and surveillance, acquiring modern equipment and monitoring devices, information sharing, capacity building, research, and safe disposal practices.
