Migratory pests, from locust swarms to quelea birds, have long posed serious threats to Kenya’s agricultural productivity. The Plant Protection Department has put strong strategies in place to prevent and mitigate these challenges, and the Ministry recognizes the critical importance of regional cooperation.
Today, CS Dr Andrew Karanja hosted Moses Mwesigwa, Director of the Desert Locust Control Organization for East Africa (DLCO-EA). DLCO-EA plays a crucial role in integrated pest and vector management across Eastern Africa, serving countries like Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, and Djibouti, to promote food security.
Their discussions centered on aligning efforts to better protect farmers and boost agricultural resilience in Kenya.
