The government has given a green light for the construction of two new tea factories at Embomos and Kiptenden areas in Konoin,Bomet County. Agriculture PS Dr Paul Kiprono Rono who today issued a certificate from Kenya Tea Board to the local farmers clearing the way for the construction of the two factories said the move is part of an extensive strategy by the government to improve tea production in the area. He said the two factories once constructed would create massive opportunities in the area and stabilise tea as a major economic pillar for Kenya.
Dr Rono also ordered KTDA to refund farmers all the money deducted from their bonuses to pay for fertilisers adding that the government has released Ksh 2 billion to subsidies the cost fertilisers and that deductions made by the organisation should bepaid back to farmers before December 5th,2023. He was accompanied by several Kenya Tea Board and Kenya Tea Development Authority officials at the event.
