In implementing proposed reforms in the tea sector by the government.The State Department of Agriculture is keen on ensuring a farmers centered management policy where the farmer is the boss. Agriculture Principal Secretary Dr Paul Kipronoh Rono has kicked off a farmers engagement program where he leads top government officials into barazas with farmers on the ground. Last weekend the PS toured Meru and Bomet Counties to interact with farmers in a move aimed at improving production in the tea value chain. In Meru the PS intervened on the raging dispute between farmers and managers at Micii Mikuru Tea factory in Meru on bonus payout. The PS ordered the local DCI to investigate the fraudulent registration of Micii Mikuru Tea factory under three different business names and to unravel the beneficiaries of millions of shillings channeled to the three identical companies. He later toured Githongo tea factory in Imenti Central. In Bomet, Konoin Constituency the PS met with farmers and unveiled the Certificate of Approval (CAO) for commencement of construction of the Kiptenden and Embomos Satellite tea factories.
