To address high food prices we must begin with the farmer. Providing affordable farm inputs through a subsidy programme is a strategic intervention that will put the country on the right path.
Today the Principal secretary state department for Agriculture Dr Kipronoh Ronoh Paul, CBS flagged off a consignment of
the first batch of 1 Million bags of Subsidized fertilizers at Narok and Bomet NCPB stores that will be distributed to farmers in Narok, Bomet, Nyamira, Kisii and Bungoma counties ahead of planting season.
The subsidized fertilizer underscores a commitment to bolstering food security, providing crucial support to farmers and ensuring sustainable agricultural development for the nation.
Such initiatives are among the various efforts being made to spur economic growth, create employment and catalyze industrial development in line with Bottom-UP Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).He urged farmers to embrace the long rains and sow seeds of change for the benefit of our country.
On his speech PS noted that the Government, through the ministry, is committed to ensuring that our devoted farmers continue to access subsidized fertilizer thus cushioning them against high prices that have characterized the market.
“We have prioritized the provision of fertilizer to ensure that farmers can competitively produce crops, sustain agricultural production and productivity; and contribute to management of the cost of living”,he said
He was flanked by County Governors Hon.Patrick Ntutu(Narok),Prof.Hillary Barchok(Bomet),Hon.Joseph Cherorot (Kipkelion East MP), DG AFA Dr Linyiru,Mr.Jude Cherise,CEO Kenya sugar boad,CEO Commodities Fund Madam Nancy Cheruiyot,Hosts of MCAs among other senior government officials.
