Today, Principal Secretary for Agriculture Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh Paul, CBS, officially launched the inspection and calibration of tea weighing machines at Teganda and Ndarawetta Tea Buying Centres in Bomet Central Constituency, Bomet County — a milestone aimed at ensuring accuracy, fairness, and transparency in the tea value chain.
He announced the introduction of tea kiosks in all buying centres to promote local tea consumption, strengthen community culture, and create jobs for women and youth in the hospitality sector.
Dr. Ronoh emphasised tea quality awareness, encouraged farmers to diversify into coffee and avocado to broaden income streams, and highlighted the importance of sustainable farming practices.
Through the support of the Tea Board of Kenya, farmers were equipped with protective clothing, including shoes, to enhance safety and wellbeing as they carry out their daily work.
He was flanked by Mr. Benard Kiseve, Regional Manager of the Tea Board of Kenya, alongside other key stakeholders, underscoring the collective commitment to advancing the tea sector and empowering farmers.
